Was Madame de Genlis Napoleon's spy?

Postby Shannon Selin » January 19th, 2017, 8:27 pm

Madame de Genlis was one of the most popular writers in Europe in late 18th and early 19th centuries. After losing her husband and fortune in the French Revolution, she turned to Napoleon for support. In return, Napoleon required her to write him regular letters. This led to suspicions that she was Napoleon’s spy among partisans of the ancien régime. My latest article looks at the relationship between Madame de Genlis and Napoleon: http://shannonselin.com/2017/01/madame-de-genlis-napoleon/.
