Postby napoleon99 » October 10th, 2016, 3:02 am

I aquired this satchel that is made of leather and has a nopoleonic eagle on it. Can anyone help me with any information on it? Thank you in advance:)

It's probably be a cartridge box however the strap is too thin, and I can't decide if the eagle is first or second empire, or if indeed its actually a shako plate.

To me that looks too wide for a cartridge box and the thin leather with narrow straps suggest more a dispatch case where there was little weight to carry. I think you're right about the eagle - looks later than 1st Empire. I'm sure I've seen them on 2nd Empire sabretaches so it might be correct rather than an add-on.

Yes, 15 inches is large for a cartridge box. So I'm lost as to what it was used for.
