Time Commanders - BBC

If you are in the UK, Time Commanders is being made again and they are looking for teams of three http://www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/take ... commanders

Now is your big chance to play Ramesses II on horseback using iron weapons! Not sure who the tech adviser will be - previous viewers will remember Aryk Nussbacher, but these days, he is known as Lynette (and to be honest, whether it was transvestisism or the whole hog, it has not gone well). Defeated teams might still be able to look forward to some sarcasm from Eddie Mair.

I have to say it was pretty leaden stuff the first time around. Aryk was rather irritating, Saul working hard to hone his screen persona and Eddie, well- just- not- that -interested.

You need an an informed enthusiast to chair the programme; to make informed comments. Also, to have Joe Normal families blundering around without a clue seemed fairly pointless. Surely, there is more point in having teams of people who familiar with the historic military circumstances, able to negotiate the elements of the actual battle and try to achieve a different outcome.

Oh, and- No Girls!

Zama was amusing. The teams had some grasp of strategy and were extrovert enough to make it interesting. The two teams they had last week made a dogs breakfast out of Waterloo, only half a clue between them about tactics, and the experts still talk as if they know what their doing. The experts also act as if it's a proper battle engine made to historically accurate specs. It's Creative Assembly's Total War Engine!!!! Which has a definite game dynamic rather than what I'd expect in a simulator. Made it somewhat more annoying.

Utterly incompetent would describe the woman playing the Roman Aetius. I always thought that battle was called Chalons. :?
