Poetry of the Spanish War of Independence Project

This website is being developed at the University of Oviedo in northern Spain and presently contains several hundred Peninsular War poems in English, Portuguese, French and German. It was the intention of the non-Spanish poets to influence European public opinion against Napoleon and many poems were clandestine, published only after 1814. Those in .pdf format can be downloaded.

Don't be put off if you're not comfortable with Spanish, just click on Archivos de Texto in the column on the left and you'll see Por Autor [author], Por Titulo [title], Por Fecha [year] and Por Idioma [language]. Click on any of them and you'll see a white box, click on that to make your choice and then click on Buscar [search]. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Descargar [download] to read the .pdf with the poem.

The project developers hope to have explanatory information in English and the other languages eventually.

Thanks for this Sarah, some good stuff in there, I have always liked Wolfe's poem, being a big admirer of Moore.
