The French did-and they fought outnumbered and inflicted heavier casualties on the Austrians. And it was the destruction of the bridge by the Austrians that stopped Davout from crossing to reinforce Lannes' attack. So, they had a point.

27th May 1796:
Suffisante captured the French Privateer Revanche at the entrance to the Chenal du Four, near Ushant

27th May 1811:
Boats of Sabine cut out three French Privateers near Cadiz.
Papillon and Sabine sank a French Privateer and recaptured her prize
