Your videos are excellent Dominique.Thank you for sharing.

Where exactly is the monument you picture at the end? On which road?
It's quite similar to the one at Champaubert but that one has a six-sided base.

Indeed, Sarah.

Both were erected during the Second Empire, Champaubert in 1867, Montmirail in 1866. This last one is taller.

The funny thing is that it is supposed to be placed on the spot from where Napoleon directed the battle.
The problem was, the monument was financed by the département of the Haute-Marne and the exact spot was in the "Aisne". So the built it on the next crest (a few hunderd meters to the east), in Haute-Marne...

Thank you Dominique. Out of curiosity, I couldn't read the text, what does the smaller monument across the road commemorate?

An interesting story about the Champaubert monument.

It's the memorial to the Promotion de Montmirail (1912-1914), the officers who left the Saint-Cyr military academy in 1914 and swore to go to battle, the first time, with cassowary (casoar) feathers on the shako and in white gloves.

Montmirail is a favourite battle of mine. Looking forward to George Nafziger's new book on the campaign. Love the video Dominique; looks like it was a very warm and sunny February!! ;)

Not entirely off-topic. The academy was founded in Fontainebleau in 1802 by Napoléon, according to wikipedia.
