US Frigate Constitution under sail once again

Postby USM » September 21st, 2012, 1:19 am

Aug 19th 2012, 200yrs after her victory over the Britisher Guerriere, the old gal is still afloat and under sail with full armament.

A sight the crew of the Java would see in late 1812.

She's a beauty. I recognize the Blue Peter in the flags - what does that sequence of flags say??

I found this online: http://www.navy.mil/navydata/nav_legacy.asp?id=273

My father called the P the Blue Peter [papa on the navy list] and always flew it before we set sail. Said it meant welcome aboard. Much more urgency in the navy definition.

It's my understanding that a sequence of certain flags indicated a specific command but here, perhaps, they just spell out a greeting or a name. It's hard to tell anyway because two seem to overlap.

PS How did you post your flags without a file name?
