Clay’s French Drummer Boy :

Postby Iain » September 24th, 2015, 8:11 am

Hi All...

I’m trying to find the name of the French Drummer Boy saved by Clay at Hougoumont.
I’ve already written to Paris and specialists asking for help but no luck.

In the meantime, I stumbled over an interesting site thanks to my genealogy interests in French and discovered the following info. Extremely interesting ! Perhaps some of you already know about it and can help me find the name.

To get there and being a member of Geneanet http://www.geneanet.org/ (FREE) .., I receive frequent genealogy updates. Today’s update was in relation to more than 100.000 French soldiers on line..., from 1800 to 1815. If I understand correctly, it was made public only a few months ago. The URL = http://www.geneanet.org/archives/releve ... =liste&p=1

I then placed ‘tambour’ into the search engine and came up with over 130 Drummers, then by clicking on the “URL document,” it provides an image of the original page and provides campaign comments, wounds and type of death.

Example of the first:

Matricule : 6949
Nom : AUDIBERT
Prénoms : César
Cote / Source : SHD/GR 20 YC 6
Note : 1er régiment de grenadiers à pied, 1799/1815 - 6 janvier 1810-21 septembre 1813 (matricules 5 757 à 7 265). Tambour
Numéro de page : 225
URL Document : http://www.memoirede...
Releveur : jperrin

Can anyone tell me, if any, which one was at Hougoumont ? (1ere Léger avec Colonel Cubières ?)

Thanks in advance..., Iain.

You'll probably want to look for the drummers of Cubieres regiment.

Many sources say there is insufficient evidence to say that it is more than just a legend...

With my research for the French Drummer Boys with nobody under the age of 20, it all seems illogical !
Just found this for the Scots Guards. Just look at their ages ! 1861.
