Thanks both! I've lurked for a while reading some of the excellent threads. I love military history for some weird reason, and this period completely grabs my imagination.

Good question. Recently I've been doing a lot of reading about Waterloo, but my interest in the period is wider. I was fascinated by Jenny Uglow's book 'In These Times', and the effect of the wars on the 'home front' and non- combatants. I love the contrasts of the period too. For example there were fairly harsh laws restricting free speech and assembly, but cartoonists such as Gillray got away with biting satire some of which (e.g. his depictions of the royal family) would be unacceptable today!
