The Napoleonic Wars 1792-1815

Russia, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada and the War of 1812.

For all discussions regarding other related conflicts during the Napoleonic period not covered by the above (e.g. Irish Rebellion of 1798 and India 1799-1804 etc.)

Russia, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada and the War of 1812.

No i've not gone completley barmy or nuts, I've just ran across this intriguing side show of the War of 1812, and indeed a sideline of the Russian Napoleonic Wars, though it's more to do with colonisation and trade than war but, it's random enough to have hooked my interest.

The Russians had been trying to colonise Alaska since the 1740's and by 1804 had a large base at Sitka, by the early 19th century they had even made inroads with Hawaii. Vague references to the Russians attempting to meddle with trade routes and merchandise during the war of 1812, and knowing they ran into opposition in Hawaii from the British and Americans I was wondering if anyone might know about anything regarding this sort of grey fringe area. Initially I wondered wether somehting might have gone on in Canada with them, since while Britain and America were bumping heads the Russians were trying to gain some kind of advantage.

So I guess my questions are.

What was the US relationship with Russian America or the Russian American Company between 1800-1815?
What was Russia actually trying to do during the war of 1812.
What was Britain's relationship via Canada with their Alaskan neighbours, if any between 1800-1815?
A sort of see saw struggle for influence seemed to be going on between the three powers in Hawaii, anyone know anything about this?

I don't know anything about Russian interests in the Pacific but have read that Russia hoped at one point that Napoleon would defeat the British fleet to stop it from interfering with Russian shipping in the Baltic.

I know it's rather vague, perhaps I should throw my net wider, and include the Hudson Bay Company into my queries.
