Yesterday, 200 years ago, to the day, 2Lt Baudry de Roisin, of the 4e Cuirassiers, died near Polotsk.

We held a small commemoration at his cenotaph at Rongy (Belgium).

Pictures to be seen here.

Thanks for posting, Dominique! It is nice to see individual Napoleonic soldiers being remembered like this despite the passage of time.

Was his cenotaph always in this church? It looks like it might originally have been outdoors.

Indeed, you are right, Sarah.

The church was destroyed by the retreating Germans in Octobre/Novembre 1918. A new one was built in 1922, and the monument (from the old church or from the churchyard) was placed there.
A peculiar thing is that the family crypt, with most ancestors, is in the village of Roisin, while this memorial is Rongy, some 40 km from there.

Rongy also belonged to this family.
