El Bodón bicentennial monument & HQ plaque

Postby FBC-Elvas, Portugal » March 6th, 2012, 9:42 am

A monument commemorating the September 1811 Battle of El Bodón, south of Ciudad Rodrigo, was unveiled last September. In January, Lord Douro unveiled a plaque on the wall of his ancestor's HQ at Fuenteguinaldo. http://peninsularwar200.org/fuenteguinaldo.pdf

Probably a good idea to consult Google Earth. I'm told it's on the old road between Ciudad Rodrigo and Fuenteguinaldo that's used today mostly by riders.

Hi Alchappe

The monument at El Bodon is roughly 13 KM South West of Ciudad Rodrigo, 2.5 KM West of the village itself. The Plaques on the monument depict cavalry scenes and scenes from the battle, the inscription reads simply 'Combate a El Bodon fought against the armies of Napoleon 25th September 1811' or words to that effect, i didn't take a close up of the inscription i'm sorry to say.

Here's a closeup of the plaque on the stone on the El Bodon monument.
There are some pictures of the reenactment September 2011 on http://www.peninsularwar200.org/elbodon.html.

Here are some recent photos of the El Bodon battlefield with the bicentennial monument. The monument is well signposted from the village.
