No, not one of those threads! BBC History mag has released the results of its annual Hot100 poll on whom readers and UK historians are interested in - Napoleon comes in at 14, Hitler at 15 and Jesus at 16 http://www.historyextra.com/hot100-2015

Make of that what you will!

What, no Beatles? John Lennon must be turning in his grave.

Good job they cut off at death in 1985, otherwise the Diana fan club would be out in force. Interesting really, Napoleon still hasn't been fully examined after 200 years, JFK was a saint until about 1990 and is now widely regarded as a womaniser and PR man, who took the US into a disastrous war, while Diana's reputation was actually being trashed in the Sunday papers printed the night she died.

how to think about/write history?

Glad to see that Anne Bolyen rated higher than Henry VIII. And Abraham Lincoln bested Napoleon.

Both met a sudden end as did Richard 3 at the hands of others - wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Spoke too soon http://www.editions-perrin.fr/livre/le- ... 2262070434

Apparently, Hitler invented "working from home" - with the occasional trip out to annoy the neighbours!
